Leah Komaiko is right up there with Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. She's a 20x Best-Selling Children's book author who lives in California. She also had a near death experience -- a transcendent experience -- 22 years ago and hasn't spoken about it until today.

Also included, the spirituality of the Three Stooges, Walking Around Awake while being Asleep and the why we should care about moments of bliss and ecstasy instead of fearing them.

Kate Collinger is one of the 5+ million people who has bipolar 1 disorder. She was diagnosed at age 18, and she rose to being known as the "Cheerios Girl" after an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, because of her mom's untimely death.

I found Kate's story of being diagnosed and institutionalized at age 18, and her rugged honesty inspiring and hopeful for all of us who suffer who know someone who is living with mental illness.

Thank you Kate. A beacon of light shining through the darkness for sure.

DeRay Mckesson [@DeRay] first came to fame for being the outspoken leader of the Black Lives Matter movement in Ferguson, Missouri.

He quit his job in Minneapolis, making six-figures, to become what news outlets have called a "professional protestor."

His message has made police violence -- and him -- famous.

He is running for Mayor of Baltimore, the city of his birth and childhood and where he's initiated community programs throughout his life. And, although he's only at 1% in some polls, I've been inspired by DeRay, his focus and precision with activism, and was curious to have a heart-to-heart with him about where life is for him now.

There were some uncomfortable moments in the interview, but on the whole, I think it's a wonderful time capsule of DeRay at age 30, where he's at in his life and his vision for a city that needs one.

Thanks DeRay.

INQUIRY is a new book I'm working on based on the reflections of the last 5 years, and how anything I've experienced has been based on the quality of questions I ask myself.

Using these short episodes as a way to tease out topics I'm working on for the book.

Including today's topic which is the rules that we get projected onto us, or choose to live by, and how it creates our reality. I gave an example of a pretty huge breakthrough I experienced this weekend.

Open to feedback, I think you'll find it relevant. With rules ["get a 9-to-5," "go to college," "invest in real estate" etc], we put ourselves in a self-imposed box that we often can't remember putting ourselves in in the first place. Then it becomes double hard to get out of.

Enjoy the show.

Gabe Marihugh (P2). Brilliant interview with a turbo meditator I found in a garden on Maui. He works as a designer for big firms in the US, and has been asking a lot of questions in his 42 years. He shares some of those questions and what he's discovered.

We left off part 1 off at the second Dirty Little Secret of Culture. We talk about the rest as well as the solutions, caffeine withdrawals, Alan Watts, the silencing of the mind and the original meaning of the word "suffering."

Thanks Gabe.

Sure, Gabe Marihugh lives in a cabin on Maui. And sure, I took a class with him and three other meditators in a garden a couple weeks back.

Truth is: this guy has been asking questions and sitting in inquiry for most of his teenage and adult life and his meditations and workshops are some of the best on the planet for discovering self and place in the universe.

He opens his meditation session with a psuedo-monologue about the Dirty Little Secrets of Culture, how it separates us from our self, and offers solutions in this incredibly poignant episode. Beyond the non-spiritual stuff we banter about, Gabe is one of the best conversationalists I've met. [The best part is I don't think he even realizes it]

So today: Gabe talks being spiritual instead of searching for a spiritual life, what is the optimal way of living alongside cultural influences telling us we're "less than," the dirty secrets of culture, including how certainty is addictive and a mis-guided indicator for strong leadership.

Nnamdi Ngwe [@NnamdiNgwe] is a world class improviser, raised in the South and trained in Chicago.

Before performing in ensembles every night of the week, starting his own improv troupe (3Peat) and traveling around the country, Nnamdi (born to Nigerian parents) and his twin brother Amechi were soccer stars at the University of Alabama.

We discuss an artists's deep dissatisfaction despite success, transitioning from soccer to improv, diversity (lack of) in the Chicago comedy scene, what makes a bad improviser and just generally catch up. After all, Nnamdi, along with other Chicago revolutionaries in comedy, starred in a sitcom I had created and developed for ABC Family back in 2012.

It's a virtual homecoming.

Thanks Nnamdi.

INQUIRY is a new book that I'm working on in response to life imitating art.

What happens when goals aren't enough? As entrepreneurs, artists, change-makers and creators, we live in a world where Hustle is King and consciousness often takes a back seat to Ego. And yet, we're more disconnected and unsocialized as a result. What happens when you realize that goals are nothing more than ego and self-will trying to exert itself over trying to heal the past or control the future? What happens is you either push harder, create more goals and distractions, or, you let go.

When I was 27, my life fell apart. I became homeless and had to move in with grandma in Maine after living a first class lifestyle in the entertainment business. Yet also - I had achieved almost all of the goals that I had set out to achieve when I was in my early 20s.

So, my life didn't really fall apart -- it broke open to the real potential of life, not the fake potential that I was wrapped up in. What I learned over the next three years is the importance of the type of questions we ask ourselves. The quality of those questions becomes the DNA of our life experience. It's a process of on-going INQUIRY, and it's the nature of my next book.

This episode shares with you the beginning of that journey.

You probably know TUCKER MAX [@TuckerMax] for being a self-described "asshole, not the biggest one, just the one who's just willing to write about it."

In reality, the Kentucky born lawyer became famous for his "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" book (and subsequent movie, hear why Tucker thinks it tanked at the box office). What followed were two other best-sellers, making Tucker one of three (Malcolm Gladwell and Michael Lewis included) authors to have three books on the NY Times Best Sellers list at the same time.

Tucker is 40 now, and we caught up with him on his jog at his home in Austin, TX. Tucker is thoughtful, the author of "Mate: Become the Man Women Want," the founder of "Book in a Box" and the dad of 18-month old Bishop.

We explore therapy, what gives him fulfillment these days, what his early success taught him and how re-defining his personal brand meant letting go of 75% of his audience.

Thank you Tucker.

Episode brought to you by Casper. Great deal - $50 off a brand new mattress and 100 days to try it out, risk free. Don't love it? They'll pick it up. keyword JAKE.
