At more than 200 episodes and 5+MM downloads, Jake Sasseville’s long-running talk show is a catalyst to the heart and mind. It features inspirational interviews with masters, heart-searching conversations with presidents of fortune 500 companies and NBA teams and highlights the common thread of what makes us all profoundly human. Widely considered as one of the most influential interviewers of his generation (and the youngest TV host in late night TV history on ABC), Jake’s style is inquisitive, humorous and heartfelt. He’s open about weight issues, watching his brother die when he was 17, failing in dozens of business ventures during his 20s, his recovery in 12 step programs — and his most recent move to Maui, the launch of his Institute and his global real estate endeavors.

OK, so Trump won. So to re-direct my energy, I pulled 3 of the best 10 minute stories I could to help re-direct all of us to what's really important.

Gabe Marihugh is one of the best gurus I've met on Maui who has the ability to synthesize culture and what's going on on our inside.

Leah Komaiko is the children's book author of 25 best-sellers and had a profound transcendent spiritual experience that she was wanting to share publicly, but never could. After 22 years, she shares it.

And Douglas Rushkoff, the best-selling author of THROWING ROCKS AT THE GOOGLE BUS, came on to promote his book, but instead found himself talking about media, philosophy, our role in creating smaller and closer nit communities.

Seemed like the perfect set of stories for the mood and what the world needs right now.

Roy Goble grew up in a junkyard. His parents came from Oklahama during the dustbowl over to Silicon Valley. His dad bought a junkyard. It just so happened those junkyards were located where Silicon Valley and the tech industry now are. Roy is the CEO of Goble Properties.

Roy is philanthropic (PathLight and Jaguar Creek in Belize, Central America) and now an author of "JUNKYARD WISDOM: Resisting the Whisper of Wealth in a World of Broken Parts." In his father's junkyard as a kid, Roy took apart everything to evaluate it for the value of its parts. Later, as he met success in real estate, Roy experienced complexity of creating wealth while still being a man of Faith. The book and interview both details these challenges and the wisdom in between.

Fun interview, wealth of knowledge. Check out then book here: https://www.amazon.com/Junkyard-Wisdom-Resisting-Whisper-Wealth/dp/1940269970

Joy Gallina is Italian, but totally Hawaiian. Besides opening a school on Maui last year, she's also studying to be a psychotherapist. YUH. Cool.

In this episode of Sasseville Sundays, the show where we discuss our relationship with God, ourselves and our place in the universe, Joy and I talk about our mind's ability to impact our body, some tricky challenges in friendships and relationships, and banter about life.

Her laugh, tho. Her laugh. Filled with light and love.

Enjoy JOY.

When Alexander Rossi, 24, won Indy 500, he could barely remember starting out in 33rd place. Dead last at the beginning of the five hundred mile race, Alex and strategist, racer and coach Bryan Herta planned and plotted a come back in real time --- and came out on top.

A big year for the sport, it's 100th anniversary of the 500 -- and Alex, a rookie -- in his first podcast interview since winning, talks about the behind the scenes manuevers, the $2.5 million payout, the incredibly slight adjustments that are made throughout a race, the mind chatter and much more.

Bobby Bailey and I VOX each other about Mapping the Future, the Unfolding Mystery of Self, my trip to Honolulu, Creating Content and Religion & God & Prophets and Practice.

As you know, I've been thinking about leaving The Jake Sasseville Show podcast, but before I did, I had these series of private conversations on the walkie-talkie APP Voxer with my friend Bobby.

It's instructive and weird and voyaristic.

In this episode of Jake & Bobby, what is the Reality Show Train Wreck, Bobby considers a letter to his unborn daughter and all the while I'm thinking of leaving The Jake Sasseville Show podcast.

These are a series of Voxes (walkie talkie APP) between me and Bobby Bailey - because if you were thinking about making a big life change, you'd want to have this type of conversation with your best friend.

Included in this one are ideas around social activism, running for political office, Osho and the idea of Misery and Happiness.

We touch on addiction and Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast. I'm a sucker for authentic and I'm not sure you can get better than this.

This episode of Jake + Bobby takes place on the streets of DC and Honolulu. We cover fear, Krishnamurti and how to deal with ourselves in the midst of banter and creative conversation.

I'm thinking of ending this podcast, but before I made any decisions, I wanted to talk to Bobby. It's a private conversation on the walkie-talkie APP Voxer that we decided to make into a few very powerful episodes.

Speaking of, we talk about the creative and curative process of TED, Krishnamurti and fear as a great diamond, the development of a media project -- INNERVERSE: The Journey Within -- as it's being created.

There is magic in storytelling that is raw and unfiltered. And there's a friendship beneath all of it. This is it.

Have you ever had to let something go, but scared of what may (or may not) come next?

A weirdly inner-inside episode, voyeuristic conversation with Bobby Bailey (soon to be father, social activist, Global Poverty Project & Invisible Children) who's my friend about what it might be to leave The Jake Sasseville Show podcast.

Two friends, talking about life, business, creativity and big decisions.

It's uncomfortably transparent, but something I believe: we all have fear about letting go what we're attached to. Even though I've done 200 episodes, I find myself feeling attached to letting it go. Even if there's something better beyond...

We use the brilliant APP Voxer to "walkie" each other back and forth, and share the conversations which were never meant to be public. Just enjoy the unfolding story of it all...

VOXER DOESN'T SPONSOR THIS EPISODE BUT WE LOVE VOXER!

Why can't Sci Fi be real? In this episode of ideating for my new book INQUIRY, we look at Science Fiction and Star Wars and wonder why those ideas can't be right here, right now.

We discuss my one experience of time travel [I was reading "Parallel Universes of the Infinite Self] without a time machine, how healing relationships is a form of time travel and how each one of us is able to do it.

What if you didn't need a time machine, just a change in perspective?

Peel it back, and dive in, Inner-engineers. Enjoy.

I found Kate's story of being diagnosed and institutionalized at age 18, and her rugged honesty inspiring and hopeful for all of us who suffer who know someone who is living with mental illness.

DeRay Mckesson [@DeRay] first came to fame for being the outspoken leader of the Black Lives Matter movement in Ferguson, Missouri.

He quit his job in Minneapolis, making six-figures, to become what news outlets have called a "professional protestor."

His message has made police violence -- and him -- famous.

He is running for Mayor of Baltimore, the city of his birth and childhood and where he's initiated community programs throughout his life. And, although he's only at 1% in some polls, I've been inspired by DeRay, his focus and precision with activism, and was curious to have a heart-to-heart with him about where life is for him now.

There were some uncomfortable moments in the interview, but on the whole, I think it's a wonderful time capsule of DeRay at age 30, where he's at in his life and his vision for a city that needs one.

Thanks DeRay.

INQUIRY is a new book I'm working on based on the reflections of the last 5 years, and how anything I've experienced has been based on the quality of questions I ask myself.

Using these short episodes as a way to tease out topics I'm working on for the book.

Including today's topic which is the rules that we get projected onto us, or choose to live by, and how it creates our reality. I gave an example of a pretty huge breakthrough I experienced this weekend.

Open to feedback, I think you'll find it relevant. With rules ["get a 9-to-5," "go to college," "invest in real estate" etc], we put ourselves in a self-imposed box that we often can't remember putting ourselves in in the first place. Then it becomes double hard to get out of.

Enjoy the show.

Gabe Marihugh (P2). Brilliant interview with a turbo meditator I found in a garden on Maui. He works as a designer for big firms in the US, and has been asking a lot of questions in his 42 years. He shares some of those questions and what he's discovered.

We left off part 1 off at the second Dirty Little Secret of Culture. We talk about the rest as well as the solutions, caffeine withdrawals, Alan Watts, the silencing of the mind and the original meaning of the word "suffering."

Thanks Gabe.

Sure, Gabe Marihugh lives in a cabin on Maui. And sure, I took a class with him and three other meditators in a garden a couple weeks back.

Truth is: this guy has been asking questions and sitting in inquiry for most of his teenage and adult life and his meditations and workshops are some of the best on the planet for discovering self and place in the universe.

He opens his meditation session with a psuedo-monologue about the Dirty Little Secrets of Culture, how it separates us from our self, and offers solutions in this incredibly poignant episode. Beyond the non-spiritual stuff we banter about, Gabe is one of the best conversationalists I've met. [The best part is I don't think he even realizes it]

So today: Gabe talks being spiritual instead of searching for a spiritual life, what is the optimal way of living alongside cultural influences telling us we're "less than," the dirty secrets of culture, including how certainty is addictive and a mis-guided indicator for strong leadership.

Delicious.

Nnamdi Ngwe [@NnamdiNgwe] is a world class improviser, raised in the South and trained in Chicago.

Before performing in ensembles every night of the week, starting his own improv troupe (3Peat) and traveling around the country, Nnamdi (born to Nigerian parents) and his twin brother Amechi were soccer stars at the University of Alabama.

We discuss an artists's deep dissatisfaction despite success, transitioning from soccer to improv, diversity (lack of) in the Chicago comedy scene, what makes a bad improviser and just generally catch up. After all, Nnamdi, along with other Chicago revolutionaries in comedy, starred in a sitcom I had created and developed for ABC Family back in 2012.

It's a virtual homecoming.

INQUIRY is a new book that I'm working on in response to life imitating art.

What happens when goals aren't enough? As entrepreneurs, artists, change-makers and creators, we live in a world where Hustle is King and consciousness often takes a back seat to Ego. And yet, we're more disconnected and unsocialized as a result. What happens when you realize that goals are nothing more than ego and self-will trying to exert itself over trying to heal the past or control the future? What happens is you either push harder, create more goals and distractions, or, you let go.

When I was 27, my life fell apart. I became homeless and had to move in with grandma in Maine after living a first class lifestyle in the entertainment business. Yet also - I had achieved almost all of the goals that I had set out to achieve when I was in my early 20s.

So, my life didn't really fall apart -- it broke open to the real potential of life, not the fake potential that I was wrapped up in. What I learned over the next three years is the importance of the type of questions we ask ourselves. The quality of those questions becomes the DNA of our life experience. It's a process of on-going INQUIRY, and it's the nature of my next book.

This episode shares with you the beginning of that journey.

You probably know TUCKER MAX [@TuckerMax] for being a self-described "asshole, not the biggest one, just the one who's just willing to write about it."

In reality, the Kentucky born lawyer became famous for his "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" book (and subsequent movie, hear why Tucker thinks it tanked at the box office). What followed were two other best-sellers, making Tucker one of three (Malcolm Gladwell and Michael Lewis included) authors to have three books on the NY Times Best Sellers list at the same time.

Tucker is 40 now, and we caught up with him on his jog at his home in Austin, TX. Tucker is thoughtful, the author of "Mate: Become the Man Women Want," the founder of "Book in a Box" and the dad of 18-month old Bishop.

We explore therapy, what gives him fulfillment these days, what his early success taught him and how re-defining his personal brand meant letting go of 75% of his audience.

Thank you Tucker.

Ontology: studying the nature of Being. Frederick Dodson is an ontologist, and by all accounts, one of the most unique human beings to walk the planet in modern day.

He's slightly self-effacing, incredibly to the point, deepened without being preachy, profound without asserting his rightness over anyone else's wrongness. He's the author of 26 books, including many that have changed the way that I view life, including "Parallel Universes of the Infinite Self." [Strongly recommended reading]

In our conversation today on the program, Frederick talks about energy levels of Presidential candidates, consciousness and creation, the importance of returning to the place of being a student even as a prominent teacher, why he doesn't meditate any longer and so much more.

He's also the founder of RealityCreation.org and this will make you look at your life in a new way.

Douglas Rushkoff's work is a compass for a new world. A recovering theater director who's first book "Cyberia" got side-lined in 1992 by the publisher because "the Internet wasn't going to be a 'thing' by 1993," is the author of "Throwing Rocks at the Google Bus: How Growth Became the Enemy of Prosperity" which articulates this new digital economy, shows us how we can both grow (and stop growing) and still be prosperous.

He's part philosopher of economics, and part media historian.

"We think we need money to have an economy," is one of my favorite lines of the interview.

It spoke to me deeply, and I think will touch all of you entrepreneurs, financial folks, even artists and creators. It shows a new way of thought by understanding business and debt by going back to its roots in the 12th and 13th century. And, Douglas is a helluva entertaining guy to boot.

Powerful for our times. Right now. It will ignite something deep within you.

Thanks Douglas. Buy the book. Listen to it on Audible.com/Jake

When does pursuit of genius get in the way of Real Life?

Imagine my surprise when, out of nowhere on MTV, I see a promo for "TRUE LIFE" featuring Topher Keene. Topher, friend of the show and childhood classmate of mine from Maine, has always been in pursuit of being VERY intelligent and proving it to the rest of the world.

This week MTV aired an episode of "True Life" where Topher uses brain-enhancing drugs -- Nootropics -- to ace a test that will prove that he's one of the most intelligent people on the globe. Girlfriend Amanda makes an appearance with him on MTV, and on the show today.

The episode got millions of viewers watching, and we asked Topher to stop by and do an interview with me and James Mccrae. Subjects covered include: Nootropics, Genius, Intelligence, When is Enough Enough and what's underneath it all.

Erin R. is a transgender man in the Pacific Northwest. Growing up as a girl, Erin first "came out" to her dad as a lesbian while she was in college. Then, in his mid-20s, Erin realized he had another coming out: as a Transgender Man.

This episode bravely explores Erin's experience as a Transgender man, the questions you don't often hear asked [or answered], how it has affected his relationships and relationship to the Baha'i Faith.

Consider this: Beyond all of us being human, the next level in our identity is whether we are male or female. Gender is beyond sexuality. It's beyond preference or biology. The issue of Gender goes to the core's core of who we are.

Andy Warhol, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, foretelling much of our consumer society today, had a BFF. Her name was Susan Blond, who would go on to become a legendary PR maestro to Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Ozzy Ozbourne and others. Susan is approaching 70 now, but just as insightful and beautiful as ever. Her stories of Michael Jackson and Andy will make your jaw drop.

Kim Last, at age 30, has worked up through the ruthless world of media to Senior Editor of Fast Company Magazine in NYC. How does a once Catholic School Girl in Queens work her way up in a cutthroat industry by being nice, kind, generous and thoughtful? It happens, and it works.

Claude Berube's dad fought in WWII in General Patton's army. Service to country was instilled from an early age.

Former US Intelligence Officer, Novelist, Educator and Expert on Terrorism and Somali Piracy, Claude Berube sits in for a lively 2-part chat on the US Government, intelligence, growing up in small town Maine with a fierce mom [one of the first females elected to public office] and a dedicated dad [who fought in General Patton's Army in WWII].

We go deep inside his experience on missions, philosophies on war and war games, and how his upbringing shaped an identity of a life of service. His fascination with Andrew Jackson's Navy led him to pursue his doctorates degree on Militarism, which he receives this summer.

Fascinating and such a poignant conversation at a crucial crossroads for the United States and for us as a human race.

Beyonce & Alistair: Alistair Williams, executive director of Broadway Bodies in NYC, made national headlines for being the first dance studio in the country to break down Beyonce's "Formation" for his classes which are sold out.

But his story goes much deeper than the Bey-hive or Broadway Bodies.

A former administrator at Rutgers University, a once closeted Alistair grew up with a single mom who, for most of his childhood, was either in seminary or preaching Sunday service around Newark, New Jersey.

He came out of the closet (twice) and not only lives to tell about it, but shares insights and stories and anecdotes that are as hilarious as they are relevant to gay or straight people who are interested in growth, spirituality, personal development and being bold.

Inspiring story.

Duncan Trussell and Joe Rogan saved my life when I was going through the darkest hours. Why? Because they podcasted together on The Joe Rogan Experience and I listened to it every day. Clung to it like a newborn clings to mother's milk.

Duncan is a legendary standup comedian (The "You Are God Tour" kicks off in April 2016) and his understanding and wisdom of life (Buddhism, Christianity) is far beyond where even practicing believers are. He's gone through testicular cancer, and talks about coming up in the comedy world (as Mitzi Shore's driver of all things). Mitzi is the godmother of comedy in Los Angeles, owner of the Comedy Store.

If you like comedy, philosophy and great stories, you'll love Parts 1 and 2 (second part out on Monday) of my interview with Duncan.

I started this show -- quite literally -- in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot in Lewiston, Maine. Down and out, broke, and living with grandma, life now is a bit different. I'm grateful for both experiences, but the show and my life is not in the same place that it was when it first started.

If there's anything I've learned in life, there is no same -- only change.

In this episode of the show, I share about that change, the unexpected things along the way and what's next for the show and for me. Hint: It's not what you expect and you may end up in the Pacific before long.

Today on the show, my dad.

After 160+ episodes, sometimes the greatest stories are the ones in your backyard.

At 39, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. I was 13, and my brother Alex was 10. It was an early on-set diagnosis for sure. (Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali also have Parkinson's Disease). He's had it for nearly 20 years and it's progressing.

When my dad was 41, Alex was diagnosed with AML Leukemia, requiring frequent trips one and three hours away from home respectively. It took a toll on everyone.

At 43, Alex died with my mom and dad by his side.

At 57, he finally tells some of his story.

I traveled to Maine recently to interview my dad in his life living room. Thought it was time to get the story on tape.

As my dad tells the story -- his story -- there is a sense of gratitude I hear from him for Parkinson's, for my brother, and for the strange unfolding of life. It's a lesson of living life on life's terms.

Enjoy the show. Thanks Dad.

Renee Warren is not only the founder and CEO of Onboardly.com, a PR firm focused on getting funded early stage tech startups the buzz they deserve, not only half of a successful marriage and co-parent with Silicon Valley investor + entrepreneur Dan Martell [she has tips for co-parenting like running a business that will blow your mind!], but she’s also a hard-working, kind human being who’s as smart as she seems to be gee-whiz funny.

She started her first business [a restaurant!] at age 17, lived in San Francisco and recently went through a difficult breakup with her business partner at Onboardly. How she got through it and how she designed her company and life is something we can all learn from. She talks openly about it and there are probably a few dozen lessons in her story for us all.

Thanks Renee.

After the FBI found Sophia LaFleur and her children in India (she left for India during a custody battle in Salt Lake City, Utah), Sophia returned to the ashram for a one-year meditation.

The secret police were searching for her and her children. Sophia had shaved her head bald. The people at the ashram she was staying at agreed to protect her. Despite this, she turned herself into the FBI and went to Utah to face felony abduction charges. She has spiritual breakthrough after spiritual breakthrough and you get to hear it in this interview.

She was led to a twelve-month silent retreat in India. She discusses what she did, the food she ate and ultimately who she became (and a surprising awareness about the spiritual ego).

It is a remarkable look at a mother's love and a spiritual odyssey unlike any I've heard before.

This story has riveted many of you, and I'm glad. Part 1 is available here:  https://soundcloud.com/the-jake-show/world-exclusive-sophia-lafleur-custody-battle-fleeing-to-india-spiritual-awakenings-the-fbi

[Part 1] World Exclusive: Sophia La Fleur, a former devout Mormon, brought her kids to India during a custody battle with her ex-husband, Michael, who married Sophia's younger sister.

Ten months later, the FBI showed up in India looking for her and her girls at the ashram she now called home. She faced felony charges for abduction.

The story doesn't end -- or start -- there, though. It's a complicated, weird, heart-felt and important web of a tale about a mother's love, the Mormon Faith, the FBI, arranged marriages, India, Salt Lake City and a reminder that we're all profoundly human. You will be riveted listening to this.

You won't soon forget Sophia La Fleur, or the story she has to tell.

[Part 2] out on Wednesday talks about Sophia's return to India after her custody battle and her choice to go on a twelve month silent meditation retreat.

Layli Miller-Muro was named by Newsweek as one of the top 150 Most Fearless Women in the World. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Tahirih Justice Center.

A 22-year-old law student in 1996 at the time, Layli was assigned to a case involving a female fleeing the Western African nation of Togo to escape forced polygamy and female genital mutilation.

Layli lost the case initially, but then it went to the highest court in the land and at age 23, won the landmark case for recognizing for gender-based persecution as grounds for asylum seekers.

A remarkable, heroic story and interview with a woman who's as educated as she is influential, and who's organization is defending the rights and honor of women worldwide.

This is a game changer.

Kae Engel-Teta is a car saleswoman outside Annapolis, MD. I originally interviewed Kae for the #SassevilleSunday show -- a more spiritual look at the world. But, with Kae, after just one question, it was clear the interview was going to take a turn.

You have to listen to figure it out -- but at its core, it's a story of love between Kae and Sal. And, how it all went away. It's the most raw, humorous, authentic interview ever done on the show. And the story is sweet.

Before meeting Sal, Kae was married to a US Diplomat and had four children. Still one of her best friends, her husband and her divorced. And Sal was a car salesman on the other side of town.

I can't share any more with you without giving away the story. You simply have to listen. It'll leave you laughing, thinking, appreciating life and crying all at once.

Thanks Kae Engel-Teta.
